THE INVISIBLE CITY
Alternative Plan to Bet-Hanina

4th Year - Urban Project
Director: Prof. Arch. Ayala Ronel
Project: Alternative Strategic plan for urban planing.
Program: Culture, Commercial, Residence & Educational functions.
Location: Bet-Hanina, east Jerusalem, Israel / Palestin.
Collaboration with Eytan Man & Shlomi Ben-Shushan.
The project attempts to create an alternative urban plan for the biggest Palestinian neighborhood under Israeli occupation in East Jerusalem.
The Bet Hanina neighborhood strives to develop into an independent town, but is limited by the Israeli-Zionist point of view which sees it as “part of the natural landscape” / a rural village, and obstructs its growth.
From a critical point of view, the existing reality in the Palestinian-Israeli space involves constant struggles over land and control. Both sides of the argument have different claims and aspirations for the territory. In an attempt to negotiate this situation, we tried to create an alternative plan which splits the city into 2 levels.
